When searching for a job or internship that fits your interests, using the correct keywords can be essential. Considering that I am an Accounting and Organizational Management double major, I am more interested in the bookkeeping and how the accounting and finance departments fit into the business as a whole. Since there are so many different types of accounting and so many different jobs associated with management searching for available positions can be difficult. However, I can limit my search by adding “auditing” or “tax accounting” and find potentially more suitable jobs that I’m interested in. When you see a certain job or internship that catches your eye, it’s important to look at keywords in the job description to know what the qualifications are and what they’re looking for in an applicant. By noticing these keywords you can add them into your cover letter and resume to make you stand out against your competition.
When conducting my research I noticed that a lot of the positions I originally looked at required a lot of experience. Not only do you need experience but you need a lot of skills in technology. Of all of the research that I did I noticed that the most commonly used keywords had to do with receivables, Excel, interpersonal skills, and analyzing statements.
I searched for jobs in the accounting field, but I am not entirely sure what I want to do with my degree. I chose a couple of internships and a couple of jobs that required more experience.
